What are the Symptoms of Food Poisoning?

The common symptoms of food poisoning are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps. These are generally caused by consuming bacteria or toxins that have entered the body through the food we eat. These bacteria and toxins can usually be found in the water used to clean and wash the dishes as well as from the person who prepared the food. Your doctor will perform tests to determine the nature of the poisoning as well as to look at the scope of the damage done. These tests are important because they allow doctors to understand the scope and severity of the problem before recommending a proper treatment plan. If the cause of the food poisoning is a bacterial infection, doctors will need to perform cultures of the gastric contents to determine if there are indeed harmful bacteria present. In severe cases of food poisoning, doctors will usually recommend antibiotics as a solution to the problem.

If the gastric contents are found to be bacteria, your doctor may recommend an antibiotic to treat it. In this case, doctors will require further tests to find out what are the symptoms of food poisoning and determine the root cause of the problem. Thankfully, most cases are not severe and a person will recover in a few days after rest and hydration.
