How to wear stripes

Although they’re a relatively simple styling choice, stripes can be an intimidating look to try to master for many men. Whether it’s a horizontal blue and white nautical stripe or a vertical pinstripe, there’s a myriad of different ways to accentuate your outfit with stripes. Let’s take a look at some of the easiest ways you can experiment.

Pants

You might normally associate a vertical pinstripe with a full suit, but try pairing those suit trousers with a nice white t-shirt or a button-up shirt for a more relaxed and casual style fit. A nice loose cut will complement the slimming lines of the vertical pinstripe and make for the perfect blend of smart casual.

Alternatively, there are dozens of possible ways to break up your look with a striped t-shirt or button-up, one of the simplest striped styles to pull off. When you’d normally reach for a plain shirt, try breaking up the look with a simple striped pattern. This can be easily paired with a jacket or coat for a nice layered look. Check out menswear retailers such as Farah shirts. They are affordable and stock a number of striped items, so there’s sure to be something any man can comfortably pull off. Farah shirts are a great way to complete all sorts of looks.

Jackets

A nice striped bomber or sports jacket is another effective way to add some depth to your fit, especially as a lightweight outer layer in spring. The stripes are a great way of adding some detail and layering to a plain fit, and they can complement lots of different smart and casual looks easily. A nice, thin stripe could be just the accent your outfit needs.

Suits

A pinstriped suit is perhaps the ultimate in smart attire, with a nice striped accent for a bit of added flavour. While still projecting a business-like approach, a pinstripe can break up the cut nicely while adding a relaxed or casual element to the overall aesthetic. A great-fitting suit can easily be found off the rack with a little shopping around these days.

These are just a few of the hundreds of different ways you can experiment with adding stripes to your look. With the huge wealth of styles available for men, there’s never been a better time to try out a new style or look.
