Interior Design Living Room With Two WindowsMay 18, 2019
The living room is the front part of the house, where guests are received, gathered by the whole family, with friends, and they organize parties. It is not surprising that every hostess wants her living room to be beautiful, comfortable, stylish and functional at the same time. Two windows are both a problem and an advantage for creating a dream interior. With the right approach, well-thought-out setting, decoration, lighting of the room, taking into account the practical wishes of the owners, recommendations of experts to cope with this task is quite real. What is the design of a living room with two windows?
Advantages and disadvantages
As a rule, in our “latitudes” the living room with two windows is a fairly spacious room with an area of about 18 square meters, from 18 to 25 in other typical apartments. In luxury homes, the LCD business class layout, the number of windows can be any. Also in new buildings of recent years there are often living rooms combined with other functional rooms, for example, kitchens, serving as a living room, living rooms, bedrooms, and other options. In such cases, the presence of two windows will allow to divide the room into functional parts, install light partitions, without denying both zones natural lighting.
- good light, a lot of daylight;
- the opportunity to beat in the interior design a symmetrical arrangement of window openings;
- even a small room with two windows looks spacious;
- the abundance of natural light allows you to use dark colors on large surfaces, bright details, prints, without fear of making the interior gloomy, overloaded;
- A great view from the windows is an added bonus to any interior.
- if the windows overlook the industrial landscape, a busy street (on the lower floors), into the well-yard, run into the blank wall, the windows of the neighboring house, most of the advantages are lost;
- in a small room with a pair of windows is not easy to place all the necessary furniture;
- Two windows are additional textile costs.
The hardest thing to do with the design of the living room, in which the windows are of different sizes, are located asymmetrically, too close to each other, but these problems are solved with the help of draping, curtain rods, decor, as in the photo below.
Regardless of the size, location of the window openings, they should be designed in the same style, color scheme. It can be lambrequins, curtains with pickups, light tulle, blinds, Roman, roller blinds, the main thing is that textiles correspond to the overall style of the room, its size. In small rooms, light, light fabrics, tulle, Roman curtains, which save space, allow light and air, look better. In large living rooms design depends solely on the wishes of the owners.
If the windows are located on one wall or abutted at an angle on the adjacent walls, and the room itself has a low ceiling, a general high cornice under the ceiling will help to visually increase the area; The gap between the windows will be draped with fabric, the living room will seem larger, more spacious. Adopt a mirror technique of window curtain design. At the same time, the colors of the curtains alternate in such a way that one window seems to become a reflection of another, as in the example in the photo.
As a rule, two windows give enough light; it is a great opportunity to decorate the opposite wall in dark, saturated colors. It is worth making it accent, painted in dark gray, emerald, blue tone, pasting with bright photo wallpapers with 3D effect. If the windows are located on two adjacent surfaces, in dark, saturated colors paint the opposite walls. On the wall, where the window openings are located, it is not necessary to glue the wallpaper with a large print, since the picture will break into fragments and look bad. It is better to choose a light design, and it will work out on opposite surfaces. Choose decor from embossed panels, bricks, wood, slabs “under the stone” – all these materials, textures look great in bright natural light.
Living room design with windows on the same wall
Two windows on one wall are a great excuse to decorate the living room in classic English, Scandinavian, French style. Try to beat the symmetry of the openings, putting a sofa, soft armchairs, a coffee table in front of you, spreading out beautiful ottomans, cute little things. Furniture set back to the narrow wall, making the center of the room a coffee table. The European principle of furnishing is suitable for spacious rooms, when armchairs, sofas, tables, and poufs are grouped in the center, and small chests, sideboards, and bookcases are placed around the perimeter.
In a modern living room, part of the furniture will be replaced by a built-in wardrobe with facades in the color of the walls; bright accents will attract attention: pillows, flashy paintings, a fluffy carpet of unusual shape. In the classic interiors, one of the walls arranges a false fireplace, and the pier will be occupied by a TV, a stylish bookcase with books, figurines, and a modern illuminated showcase.
If we are talking about Scandinavian design, any style that does not require a strict arrangement of furniture and symmetry, turn the window sills into cozy benches, as shown in the photo below, install bookshelves around the perimeter of the openings. The floor will decorate the carpet, the soft sofa will unfold “face” on the TV.
If the living room is combined with a kitchen and plays the role of a dining room, in the center of the room, it is worthwhile to put a volume sofa between the windows, with your back to the kitchen, “facing” the table, the wall with a TV, and other equipment. The bar counter will easily demarcate the cooking zone from the rest zone, reception of guests, and if necessary will become the main element of any party.
A room with a small number of books and accessories will help divide the room into an office and a recreation area. The design will decorate the TV with a swivel mechanism (it will be visible from the living room, and from the office). It will beautifully divide a room into two parts without cluttering the space, an illuminated aquarium, a weightless batten wall, transparent glass curtains on the ceiling cornice, a decorative screen, sliding glass doors with imposts (the last options are relevant for separating sleep and reception areas).
Planning and zoning the living room with windows on adjacent walls
Such a layout requires a special approach. The design depends on the amount of free space in the corner. If there is enough space, a corner sofa will fit in there, for small spaces a small bookcase with books, a high chest of drawers, a narrow rack, a soft armchair will do. Install the TV here. If the windows are arranged at an angle, and the living room is small, use the space under the window sills. There will fit low, roomy cabinets, dressers, shelves for books, closed storage systems.
The large space between the window openings on the adjacent walls allows it to be used for different purposes. Equip in this gap a corner of relaxation where you will indulge in dreams, read your favorite books, do handicrafts. You will need a stylish floor lamp, a comfortable chair, a small bedside table for important things. Another design option is a miniature office. In the corner will stand a desk with shelves, a chair, and a computer; the abundance of daylight will be a plus, the view of the street will inspire new achievements, and the table lamp will accelerate evening shadows.
Windows on opposite walls: design methods
This option in urban apartments is rare; it is typical for private houses and country cottages and will allow you to select two functional areas, symmetrically separated by conventional lines. Emphasize this line with the help of furniture, mobile partitions. Often the way out of the situation becomes the central pillar or wall of plasterboard. On one side of this column, there will be a double bed, and on the opposite side, there will be a sofa for guests, a coffee table or a dining table, cabinets, sideboards, and other furnishings.
A spacious room does not need to be clearly divided into zones. Corner for relaxing, watching movies with upholstered furniture will take one part, the dining room – the other. Both groups emphasize different carpets of similar colors, the design of the living room will serve as a unifying factor.
As you can see, there are many options for living room design with two windows, and each is good in its own way. When developing the design of your own apartment, consider the footage, the height of the ceilings, the layout, the location, the size of the windows, the functional load.
